 There is fairly energetic constituency for some aspect of microbes as "shape shifters". What if... 
   
 What if life organized itself, here, for example, or anywhere else, and it made spores that had all the igrediants necessary for life - ribosomes, and DNA, and lipids membranes, let's say... spores that didn't make brontosaurus or men, but generic life something more basic than a slime mold. If it did, and it spread these spores, then metorite strikes might carry them to space and they might seed the universe... 
   
 DNA code, fortuitous, first come? or tied into the shape of things?
