between two lives

The clouds in their majesty laugh at me.
I drive along this sunny highway
suspended between two lives

I reached round in back
behind the driver’s seat for my notebook,
flipped it open to an empty page
to write the above, for what its worth,
not looking at the page I write
- looking at the road and driving

She watches me a moment.
"I could give you a blow job," she says.
I burst out laughing
and continue writing, driving.
"I’m surprised," she laughs.
"I thought you’d put down your notebook
and open your fly."

The clouds in their banality laugh at me.
I drive along the highway
suspended between two lives.
