Virgo

was real
and now is gone
another summer
another time

   * * *

what a short moment -
we'd crossed a stile
stopped a while
faced the wind
the future
I stood behind you
embraced you
a hand on your heart
a moment

the space between our sparse meetings
was a stagnant void
in which we cast our hopes and fears

our love was real
but now it's gone
merged into the fall
where
time put on a veil
walked slow and pale
beneath behind beside the moon
casting shadows and spells
like a snake time coiled round our desire
on the far side
on the far side
on the far side of the moon
on the far side of the room
fate was twined by wishes
that could never be

oh it seemed so cruel
you took weeks to tell me
vipers wreathed our bed
you veiled your eyes
and move your heart to other places
while I still saw illusions on the shell
and sitting close beside you
whisper no-one's name

what-could-be I loved you
tomorrow's fancy was my special child
it sang me to fragrance
before it died

hear the crystals now tintagel
Guinevere's vacillation
she moves
she dances
away
and I have no clue
how to retain the grail
which was real
and now is gone
another summer
another time

what a short moment -
we'd crossed a stile
stopped
faced the wind
the future
I stood behind you
embraced you
a hand on your heart
a moment

the nearest I've been to home
besides the fleeting times with you
have flown
are foam

I trust we'll meet in heaven

was real
and now is gone
another summer
and another time

was real
and now is gone
another summer
another time
