Norman Allan : the story
book two: secrets
footnotes

Chapter 3:

1. In England they were three paper tobacco filled hashish joints. Europe was a hash culture - we were Hash Heads. The U.S. was a pot culture, they were Pot Heads. (in those days. Oh, and.this is a fiction. I was rolling at Chick Corea's concert at Hove Town Hall, that Nick organized.

2. wikisays "Warrendale is a 1967 documentary film by Canadian filmmaker Allan King. It was originally produced for broadcast on CBC Television, but was never shown due to King's refusal to edit out the copious profanity in the footage."

3. actually, the phioto below is of the 1970 festival which was 4 times as large!

(footnote): back in the late 1950s and in my teens, perhaps the second period of toking, with Pete S. (Sean's younger brother)... the term he and his friends used for getting "high" was "blocked"... and I never had any idea why. But the other day, trying to put Joni's picture and link here, I was blocked! Could not think what the steps were.
Oh, a few years back, stoned in the afternoon, I couldn't remember what day it was! "Not to worry," I thought. "In half an hour I'll know."
Come to think of it, though, why "stoned"?

4: not quite their lyrics..

(footnote) Joe got the mathematicians version of the Nobel Prize, the Fields Medal (here in Toronto).

5: a French expression, non?

6: "stoned" is high on pot/hash/THC: "tripping" is high on psychadelics such as acid/LSD

7: Sam just sent me this amazing video about talking to animals (nothing to do with dope though, though still relavent here in that it is about communicating...)

8: Lies My Father Told Me

9: we didn't yet call crumbs of dope "blims" in those days (therefore this is an anachronism)

9b: Donavans? could be

10: the past many months I've not been scanning and posting these any longer... (don't ask why)

11: on the walk back up to the subway, approaching the station, the street light electricity went down, dark... would the subway still be running? it was...

12: "spokenword" is a recital performance piece, often a "rant" (often delivered in the affectation of a hip-hop persona) - but can be amazing theatre, and can be poetic.
